Cycle Response Unit
Introduction:
St John Ambulance Cycle Response Unit (CRU) was initiated in June 2007. Its humble beginning was with 8 bicycles donated by BH Electronic Sdn Bhd, to MCAD. It was then the first medical unit on bicycles in Penang.
Each bicycle is equipped with first aid kit and operated by CRU volunteers who are able to provide basic first aid treatment. Members trained to advanced level may carry other lifesaving equipment such as AED and resuscitation equipment.
Function:
The environmental friendly CRU serves well in crowded areas as they can get to the casualties faster and more effective than foot patrols or ambulances
CRU has appeared at many major events, such as Penang Bridge International Marathon, Star Walk, Wesak Day Procession, cycling events/activities and many more.

3 Basic Requirements:
- Must be able to cycle.
- Can learn first aid.
- Can serve the community.
You will be trained to:
- Manage an incident.
- Assess a casualty.
- Deal with unconscious casualty/perform CPR.
- Deal with injuries and bleeding.
- Operate an automated external defibrillator (AED).

- Marathon/Walkathon
- Procession
- Other Road Events
