SJAM Awards & Honours

 

SJAM AWARDS  

Category 1: Darjah Setia Utama SJAM
The Darjah Setia Utama SJAM award, which comprises of a Sash or Broad Riband, a Badge and a Star, is conferred on SJAM officers of Rank Marking 6 and above and on individuals of the highest standing in society who have contributed excellent and outstanding service.

The recipient of this award should possess an influential, noble and respectable status in the society.

Only one award will be conferred in any year and is limited to 10 living persons.

The Darjah Setia Utama SJAM ribbon is signified by 3 gold stars.

 

Category 2: Darjah Bakti Perkasa SJAM
The Darjah Bakti Perkasa SJAM award, comprises of a Neck Decoration, is conferred on SJAM officers of Rank Marking 8 and above and individuals who enjoy a high status in the society and have contributed excellent service.

Only three awards will be conferred in any year and is limited to 30 living persons.

The Darjah Bakti Perkasa SJAM ribbon is signified by 2 gold stars.

 

Category 3: Pingat Jasa Gemilang SJAM
The Pingat Jasa Gemilang SJAM gold medal is conferred on SJAM officers of Rank Marking 10 and above and individuals who have contrubuted a unique and valuable service to the organization.

Only five awards are issued in any year.

The Pingat Jasa Gemilang SJAM ribbon is signified by 1 gold star.

Category 4: Pingat Jasa Cemerlang SJAM
The Pingat Jasa Cemerlang SJAM silver medal is conferred on SJAM officers of Rank Marking 12 and above and individuals who have contributed outstanding service to the organization.

Only five awards are issued in any year.

The Pingat Jasa Cemerlang SJAM ribbon is signified by 1 silver star.

Category 5: Pingat Jasa Terpuji SJAM
The Pingat Jasa Terpuji SJAM bronze medal is conferred on SJAM officers and individuals who have exhibited competence and achieved praiseworth deeds. The recipient must possess good conduct and character.

Only fifty awards are issued in a year.

The Pingat Jasa Terpuji SJAM ribbon is signified by 1 bronze star.

SJAM Bravery Awards
In addition to the above awards, SJAM issues bravery awards to members and officers who have displayed qualities of bravery and courage in saving another life.  
Pingat Gagah Berani SJAM - Gold
The Pingat Gagah Berani SJAM gold medal is awarded to officers and individuals who have displayed extraordinary qualities of bravery and courage whilst confronting a dangerous situation to one's life.

This award may be conferred posthumously.

Pingat Gagah Berani SJAM - Silver
The Pingat Gagah Berani SJAM silver medal is awarded to officers and individuals for their gallantry.

Pingat Gagah Berani SJAM - Bronze
The Pingat Gagah Berani SJAM silver medal is awarded to officers and individuals for their bravery.

 

 

SERVICE AWARDS

SJAM 5 Years Service Medal

About the SJAM Service Medal
The Pingat Perkhidmatan 5 Tahun SJAM is awarded to members and officers who have been efficient for at least 5 years but not exceeding 9 years. This award precedes the Service Medal of the Order of St. John, which is awarded for 10 years active and efficient service.

How to Qualify
To qualify for this award, members and officers must fulfill the Annual Efficiency requirements as stated in Part 2-4 of the General Regulations for St. John Ambulance of Malaysia. Cadets promoted to adult membership may count cadet service towards this award on the basic of one service star for one year adult service.

The application for this medal is through the respective State or Regional Commanders, as it would be in the case of the Service Medal of the Order of St. John. Click  to download the application form.

Disqualification
The medal is not awarded retrospectively i.e., at time of announcement of the nomination for the Pingat Perkhidmatan 5 Tahun SJAM, members and officers must have fulfilled the necessary criteria.

Those who are on their 10th efficient year and in the process of receiving their Service Medal of the Order of St. John will not qualify for the SJAM service medal. Likewise, those who have received their Service Medal and subsequent bars will not qualify.

How to Wear This Medal
The Pingat Perkhidmatan 5 Tahun SJAM medal or its authorized ribbon is worn above the left breast pocket, after the SJAM medal (if any). The miniature medal is worn on the mess kit.

 

 


Service Medal Of The Order

On the recommandation of the Chief-of-Staff (Operations), the Service Medal of the Order may be awarded to Presidents, Officer and Members of the SJAM (but not to Auxiliaries Members) who have completed 10 years' active and efficient service requirements as stated in Part 2-4 of the General Regulations.

Bars to Service Medals

A Bar to the Service Medal may similarly be awarded for each successive five years of efficient and active service, as follows:

  • 15 years   -   1 silver bar

  • 20 years   -   2 silver bars

  • 25 years   -   3 silver bars

  • 30 years   -   1 gilt bar

  • 35 years   -   2 gilt bars

  • 40 years   -   3 gilt bars

  • 45 years   -   4 gilt bars

  • 50 years   -   5 gilt bars

Service Medal Certificate

when the award of the Service Medal has been approved a Certificate will be issued for the member concerned. Any subsequent award of Bars is accompanied be an authorising slip (but no further certificate as such).

Awards of the Order for which members of the SJAM may become eligible are:

OTHER  HONOURS  
Meritorious Service Certificate

The Meritorious Service Certificate is awarded by the Commander-in-Chief to SJAM Members for particular meritorious acts of first aid, where the circumstances in general disclose difficult conditions, or some degree of personal risk in getting to the casualty or during subsequent treatment or execptional skill in the organisation of rescue services.

Meritorious Service Certificate Bar is worn 25 mm (1 inch) above the right pocket or 13mm (½ inch) above the name tag or 13 mm (V2 inch) above the Half Wing.

Letter of Commendation

A Letter of Commendation may be awarded by the Commander-in-Chief where the treatment has involved special difficulty, e.g. several casualties with severe injuries, difficult working conditions or particularly tenacious continuation of treatment.

 

 
Honorary Membership

Honorary Membership of SJAM is awarded to those who have rendered good service to SJAM, without actually being a member. As a general principle, this service should have been extended over a period of not less then three years. Full members of the SJAM who have resigned or retired, and Presidents (of any grade) on giving up office after three years' service are also eligible. Recommendations should be made through the State/Regional Commander to the Commander-in-Chief who, if he concurs, will award the Honorary Member's Badge.

 

 
Jubilee Certificate

The Jubilee Certificate is awarded at the discretion of the Commander-in-Chief to Areas, Corps and Division which have been in existance for 50, 75 and 100 years and whose strength and service over the years have merited this distinction.

 

 
Individual 45- or 50-Years Certificate

A certificate for 45 or 50 years' efficient service is awarded at the discretion of the Commander-in-Chief to individuals who have served efficiently for either 45 or 50 years.

 

 
Grand Prior's Badge

Cadets and Members whose service has been satisfactory and have successfully obtaining 12 Proficiency Certificates which under the Cadet Proficiency Scheme Requirements (General Regulation - Chapter 7 Annexe B), will be granted a Grand Prior's Badge by the Order and they will be known as "Grand Prior Cadets".

To qualify, an Adult member must have been promoted from cadet and have passed an examination in at least four subject before his/her 16th birthday, except in the case of cadet enrolled between 15th and 16th birthdays, who will be required to have passed in two subjects only at that stage. For Award of the Grand Prior's Badge, the 12 Proficiency Certificates must be spread over a period of not less than 36 months. All certificates must be completed by the 21th birthday.

Qualified Grand Prior's Badge recipients may, however, continue to wear the badge throughout their subsequent service.

The Grand Prior's Badge should be worn as soon as its award is authorised. the recipient should then be presented with the Grand Prior's Certificate at an appropriate important occasion later (at which time the recipient should already be wearing the badge).
