While MCAD started to be self-dependent in Basic First Aid Training, we
know it is time to step ahead.
We
are lucky, and always proud of our members who can achieve better
performance – Mr. Khoo Teng
Giap, the Hospital Universiti
Kebangsaan Malaysia (HUKM) Emergency Medical Technician-Basic
(EMT-B) Top 10 student. There were also 5 Advanced First Aid Certificate
holders in MCAD. (Now 10 AFA holders) They are trained to a higher level of
knowledge and skills, which are vital to help to save lives during
emergencies.
Realising the importance of knowledge and skills in Pre-hospital Care to
ensure survival until arrival at hospitals, MCAD quickly draft out its
syllabus with Basic Trauma Care by HUKM as our main reference. Thus, the
first Pre-hospital Care for Trauma Victims (PHC4TV) was introduced in
December 2002.
PHC4TV is a specially designed training for those who will be involved in
providing emergency ambulance services.
Participants are not only exposed to knowledge and skills on Trauma Care,
but they also obtained relevant experiences shared by the speakers. Topics
one first aid provider never learn from Basic First Aid is here: Airway
Maintenance, Mechanism of Injury, Driving to the Scene, Special
Considerations for Paediatric Trauma and Trauma in
Pregnancy and even Extrication.
We would continue to organise this programme for our members in order to achieve our
vision to have the most number of Pre-hospital Care
personnel. PHC4TV
was expanded when
Mr. Low Eng Chuan, EMT-B, shared his experiences when he was trained in USA;
Dr. Teo Aik Howe,
MBBS,
MMed (Emegency
Medicine), shared his specialised knowledge
and skills in his field and our very own First Aid Trainers become
Facilitators.
We are looking
forward to expand this training again, with additional subject and to make
it an annual event in order to achieve our mission to make SJAM "One of
the Best, if not the Best Emergency Service Provider"
by,
Gan Hoo Kok
